The levels of poverty are especially rampant among women from indigenous communities, those with disabilities, and those from the LGBTQ community. The main factor leading to this high poverty rates are systematic barriers that lead to women being underrepresented in high paying jobs. The feminist theory highlights the need to reduce poverty as a way to achieve women’s equality. In Canada, approximately 53% of those in poverty are women (Smith-Carrier, 2017). These women are more likely to be exposed to gender-based harms like sexual exploitation and domestic violence. Other than that, some of the women engage in activities like sex trade as a way to deal with the high rates of poverty. Thus, addressing the poverty levels among women, it is possible to deal with many social problems.In this regard, to address the issue of poverty reduction, one has to consider the feminist perspective.
