Criminology has several theories which allow us to devise strategies to reduce crime and rehabilitate criminals. The Labeling Theory “explains deviance in terms of the process by which a person acquires a negative identity, such as “addict†or “ex-con,†and is forced to suffer the consequences of outcast status†(Adler, et.al, 2019).Those who adhere to the labeling theory of criminology believe that a person will become what he is known for or what others anticipate him to become; the risk stems from naming something as a crime and being classified as a criminal. People with prominent positions in society believe that is their inherent right to create and enforce social standards that other members must follow, regardless of whether they belong to the same 'class'.
