I would have handled it exactly the same. It is unethical to exploit the ignorance of the clients when promoting a product or services. Two years ago, I worked as an insurance policy salesperson. It was very difficult to convince the prospective buyers to buy the policy. Since the compensation was based on the number of insurance policies that the sales person sells, one was usually tempted to exaggerate to the client of the benefits of the policy and let him or her find out its disadvantages by himself from the pamphlet. However, it never felt right. I therefore agree with Terry that, when the approach feels wrong, then it is wrong. The best way is to tell everything to the client and let them decide if the service of product solves their problems or not. An alternative would be to conduct market research to determine the type of problems that the clients have, and then develop products or services that they cannot resist.
