Reflection PaperThe names Hurricanes Irma and Maria have become synonymous with so much tragedy and loss in recent years. Listening to the podcast, I was devastated to hear the cost impact of hurricanes, Irma and Maria ran to the tune of Billions. The damage done was quite extensive as about 50% of the population lost their homes and people had to be evacuated to Atlanta and Miami. Additional damages were incurred by hospitalswhich could not operate fully for several months after the hurricane, severe power outages and a communication breakdown.There were several pre-mitigation efforts that helped alleviate the plight of the Virgin Islands for example recovery plans that included hazard mitigation into their strategies.Lieutenant Emily Ussery said that she had been in talks with stakeholders about the role of health in the built environment. She performed a walkability audit that created a plan for the Virgin Islands such as roundabouts that did not rely on lights and streetlights to increase safety.These tactics were instrumental in reducing the impact felt even though the territory still has along way to go in its hazard mitigation and recovery strategies. I opine that the rallying together of organizations in the recovery efforts, for
