Basics of Ecology & EnvironmentEnvironment: The environment is defined as the sum total of living, and non-living components, influences and events surrounding an organism. The term environment comes from the French word "environer" which means 'surroundings'.It is sum total of biotic and abiotic components. Components of the Environment:Abiotic factors: Abiotic are non-living components; such as water, soil, and atmosphere. Biotic factors: Biotic factors are living things within an ecosystem; such as plants, animals, and bacteria. What is Ecology? The study of the interactions between living organisms and their biotic and abiotic environments. Therefore, it is the study of the relationship of plants and animals to their physical and biological environment. Levels of Organisations in Ecology:2 Organism: It is an individual living being that has the ability to act or function independently. It may be plant, animal, bacterium, fungi, etc.Population: It is a group of organisms usually of the same species, occupying a defined area during a specific time. Community:It refers to all the populations of different species living and interacting in a particular area or habitat. A community may consist of different species of plants, animals, fungi, and microorganisms, which are interdependent and affect each other's survival and well-being. Ecosystem:An ecosystem is
