Case study of gastrointestinal bleed resulting from prednisone treatment for silicosis.NameInstitution AffiliationCase study of gastrointestinal bleed resulting from prednisone treatment for silicosis.A 62- year old man, K.L known to have a history of silicosis and works as a sandblaster was admitted to the hospital because of lower gastrointestinal bleeding. He had suffered severe diarrhea during the night and passed maroon-colored stool. His wife was quite worried and called the paramedics (Harding & Snyder, 2016). Current medication is 40mg of prednisone per day to suppress the progression of silicosis. Silicosis is one of the pulmonary diseases which result from the inhalation of free crystalline silicon dioxide (Silica) (Akgun, Araz, Yilmazel Ucar, Karaman, Alper & Gorguner, 2014). It is an occupational disease that mostly affects workers from particular economic areas where silicon dust is extreme such as in those in mining, metallurgy, glass, machine building, maritime industry and extraction and processing sand like K.I’s case. The patient’s vital signs were stable (110/64,110, 28, Spo2 93%), he was a little agitated, and his temperature was 36.80C (98.20F) (Harding & Snyder, 2016). He had not passed any stool since getting admitted, but had a guaiac rectal examination. He was not diaphoretic
