Case StudyName: Institution:Case StudyManagement plays a critical role in ensuring the success and long-term survival of an organization. According to Simons, Pelled, & Smith, (1999), managers are responsible in getting activities of an organization to be completed efficiently through other people and ensuring the achievement of an organization’s goals. In doing so, a manager performs four basic management functions, that is, planning, organizing, leading and controlling (UMUC, 2014). In the execution of the basic functions of management, managers require human, financial and material resources. The success of an organization highly depends on how the management executes its four basic functions as mentioned above. While employees in an organization only see the leading and controlling functions, behind the doors, managers spend a great deal of time planning and organizing how to lead and control effectively and guide the organization towards achievement of its goals (Carpenter, Bauer, & Erdogan, 2009). In the case of Amanda Smith, it is evident that she does not appreciate the importance of the four basic functions of management, which in the end leads her firm on a path of failure.
