I agree with your comment that nursing theory is derived from practice and that the knowledge provided by theories helps nurses to strengthen their nursing practice. Theories form the foundation of nursing and they influence how nurses practice their profession. They also lead to the generation of new theories and nursing knowledge that is relevant to changing and complex health systems (Saleh, 2018). While I agree with your sentiments that theory does not play an important part in your role, it is important to remember that theories improve our practice and influence positive health outcomes for our patients. All nursing programs, clinical experience and work place training is one way or another based on theories. While we might not think much about it, our work with patients is driven by conceptual models, theories and frameworks. Having strong foundational knowledge in medical knowledge is important and I applaud you for pursuing this course. Hopefully, your opinions might change as we learn more on this.
