Dear Gabrielle,Roy’s Adaptation Theory is an important conceptual model for the Theory of Adaptation during Childbirth because it focuses on the changes that patient’s experience when they enter into the health setting. This model explains how human beings become integrated with their environment based on their conscious choices. The main elements of the model are the patient/person, environment, stimuli, health and adaptation (Butss & Rich, 2018). The Theory of Adaptation during Childbirth is linked to Roy’s Adaptation Model because it explains the process of adaptation that new mothers experience. I like the example you gave about weight gain. This is something that most mothers experience after birth. Roy’s model provides a framework for assessing weight gain based on the mother’s environment after birth, their relationship to the baby and other stressors.
