Dear Beatriz,Your post on opinion leaders was very informative especially with the example you gave of nosocomial infections. Hospital acquired infections pose a constant threat to hospitalized patients and they are a major safety concern for healthcare providers. They increase patient mortality, increase the patient’s stay in hospital and they add a substantial amount to hospital costs. Healthcare providers need to take steps to improve on patient safety and prevent these infections (Mehta et al., 2014). The interventions you selected to address nosocomial infections in your unit were appropriate for dealing with this problem. Wearing protective gear is one way of reducing infections and also teaching nurses how to observe hand hygiene prevents the transmission of infectious organisms. I agree with the characteristics you gave for opinion leaders. They need to be self confident, have the necessary knowledge that is always evidence-based and have influence in the workplace to effect change. I believe you will be able to effect change in your workplace and reduce these infections. Thank you for the post.ReferencesMehta, Y., Gupta,, A., Todi, S., Myatra, S.N., Samaddar, D.P., Patil, V., Bhattacharya, P.K., & Ramasubban, S. (2014).
