This is because they have both the educational and clinical knowledge to understand what policies are needed in the health system. They are also able to understand how these policies will affect patient’s access to affordable healthcare. Healthcare policies are important because they demonstrate progress and adoption of new healthcare techniques (Chilton, 2015). Many nursing organizations are the best source of getting policy information. Some of these organizations even organize seminars or internships where nurses work in a legislative office to gain first-hand experience of how the legislative process works. The State Board of nursing is also a good source of current policy information because they liaise with the State on these same policies.
