Easy Rawlins is a World War II veteran with few job prospects and is cash strapped. He has little choice about taking an under the table job from a man he is unfamiliar with. What follows is drama mystery and suspense in a film that is dominated by murder, politics and sex. Easy soon finds himself trapped in a web of lies and backstabbing. In this film, Carl Franklin perfects the art of creating a fluid, persuasive movie with considerable visual sophistication. The role of Ezekiel “Easy” appears tailor made to fit Denzel Washington the lead actor. The director also does a good job in recreating Los Angeles of the 1940s. The way that the director brings the 1940s, Los Angeles to life creates a nostalgia, which is emphasised by the great Jazz track carried in the film. This
