Gender and Transgender YouthSouthern New Hampshire University 02:07:45 GMT -05:00The conversation of gender identity and transgender in today’s society has increased but the topic in general can still be quite controversial especially when talking about gender in youths. One of the biggest outwards and talked about trends of current status are pronouns and the important role they take in gender but with pronouns comes many people who refuse to use them in the correct form and other people who say, “its to complicated†and will continue to refer to individuals as their non preferred pronouns. Something so simple as pronouns cause enough controversy or disrespectful comment that it is hard for individuals, especially adolescents, to express their preferred gender because they are scared or the backlash they could face. Some adolescents feel safest at school and will be more likely to express themselves there with their friends and this means they might present their gender differently there and not be telling their community outside of school.An article by the New York Times called “When Students Change Identity and Parents Don’t Know.†Talks about the new ways that the schools have to adapt and make new policies to be
