They focus on public safety and not necessarily enforcing the law. An example of this would be teenagers out past curfew and are caught trespassing. The officer would either tell them to go home or would call their parents to come pick the teenagers up. This is more of a warning in hopes that the “scare†will prevent them from acting out in the future. It also can provide a foundation for a relationship between the police department and teenagers.The officers typically will use their own discretion to maintain order and avoid arrests, especially with juveniles and traffic (Dempsey and Forst, 2018) . This is what we would call a traditional style of policing.Some may argue that this style is problematic over solutional. There is a great deal of discretion which can have biases attached especially with ethnicity and race. Using the example above with the teenagers outside of curfew, depending on the officer and the ethnicity
