5-2 Activity: Environmental Hazards (Summary & References)Southern New Hampshire University CHE-110 Intro to Community Health 08:35:05 GMT -05:00After watching the film Atomic Testing in the Marshall Islands, I noticed a few environmental hazards. For example, radiation exposure from nuclear testing fallout has resulted in high incidents of cancers, Leukemia, and birth defects. The Marshall Islands have remained uninhabitable since 1946 and will remain so until radiation levels lower to what is considered 'safe' for humans which also translates to the islands being unsafe for agricultural and fishing industries. Also, preparations and calculations for the tests and aftermaths failed to recognize how winds would and could carry radiation – and that is what happened as other inhabited atolls were impacted without the ability for the inhabitants to be warned or given ample time to prepare or relocated as those from the affected islands. “Five hours after detonation, it began to rain radioactive fallout at Rongelap. The atoll was covered with a fine, white, powder- like substance. No one knew it was radioactive fallout. The children played in the ‘snow. They ate it (Atomic Heritage Foundation, 2014).â€â€œâ€¦The US Government had relocated all residents of the Bikini and Enewetak atolls to
