Complex numbersAdapted Reading P assageComplex numbers are special numbers that are made up of two parts: a real part and an imaginary part. The imaginary part is a number multiplied by "i", which stands for the imaginary unit. The imaginary unit is defined as the square root of -1. W e can write complex numbers as a + bi, where a and b are real numbers. For example, 3 + 2i is a complex number. The real part is 3, and the imaginary part is 2i. Complex numbers are important because they allow us to solve equations that don't have solutions in the real number system. For example, the equation x + 1 = 0 has no real solutions, but it has two complex solutions: i and -i.Complex numbers can be added, subtracted, multiplied, and divided just like regular numbers. They can also be represented on a graph called the complex plane. The real part of a complex number is plotted on the horizontal axis, and the imaginary part is plotted on the vertical axis. This makes it easier to visualize complex numbers and their operations. 13/0 9/2 024 1 3:2 2C om ple x n um bers - m ade
