Guidelines For The Brainstorming Process

The purpose of a brainstorming session is to churn out new, innovative and ground breaking ideas by putting thoughts and ideas of many people at the same time. The charge of thoughts from various people discussing and developing over each others views gives rise to sparkling new ideas and solutions. For this, however, some basic guidelines need to be observed.Set directions: define the problem area and the situationInvolve everyone: everyone needs to participate as every contribution and every thought counts. It’s a collective session and therein lies its benefitEncourage cross-fertilization: build on each others ideas. Combine, synergize ideas to form new onesThink out-of the-box: the purpose is to think ‘new’ and never tried before stuff. Hence be creative and go wild and crazy. Crazy ideas are sometimes the gems.Don’t allow criticism: encourage everyone to speak and don’t discourage or laugh off an idea or a thought. There are no bad ideas, so don’t judge.Quantity, not quality: idea is to come up with 100 ideas.
