1 Bud d hism Vocabulary Assignment Bodhi is a Sanskrit word that means enlightenment, spiritual awakening. In Bud d hism, bod hi is the main religious goal, achievement of which signifies not only acquisition of super knowled ge, but also is a premise for the final release in Nirvana. Bod hi is the highest state of mind . In ancient times, Bud d hists created the 37 qualities that lead to Enlightenment (bod hipaksa-d harma). Bodhisattvas are people or other beings who decid ed to become Bud d has. The motive is a d esire to get out of the circle of end less rebirths (Samsara) and save all living beings from suffering. Using six spiritual qualities (generosity, morality, patience, fortitud e, wisd om, and an ability to contemplate), Bod hisattvas achieve Nirvana. However, after Bod hisattvas reach Nirvana, they cant help living beings. The greatest Bod hisattvas prefer to stay in Samsara, voluntarily obeying the laws of Karma, until all living beings are saved . Brahma is the Creator.
