P 76). Since the adoption of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and the HITECH Act and the subsequent Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2014, the use Health information communication technologies (HICT) has grown significantly. EHR system use has grown from less than 8%prior to the legislation, to over 80% in 2017 (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2022, p. 165). As technology usage has expanded with mobile phones, tablets, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and high-speed internet, patient access to health information and HICTs has grown as well.
