10/05/18Ryan Sweeting Script Analysis“GET OUT” AnalysisThe film “Get Out” is the story of one African-American man’s struggle against his external and internal demons, as well as a story that depicts and portrays at a deeper level the shameless, modern-day racism in America. The script is saturated with in-depth layers of symbolism, as well as real-world references, played by multiple, ever-shifting character archetypes. “Get Out” has extremely obvious and blatant overarching themes such as the cost of inaction, the value of intuition, the wheels of racism, the mother-son bond and so on. As I present and articulate my analysis of the hero’s journey, the multiple character archetypes and the three-act structure of the script, I also envision this story as if it were an actual series of events in today’s America. While I believe the “legal” resolution depicted as the film concludes to be a relatively positive one and a great relief in relation to the protagonist, I also believe that such a relatively favorable outcome would, unfortunately and sadly, be rather unlikely and unrealistic in our real world today.
