Evaluating nursing care quality began with Florence Nightingale. She used statistical methods to generate reports that correlated patient outcomes to environmental conditions. This has evolved and according to Montalvo (2007), in 1998 the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators was created by the American Nurses association (ANA) so that ANA could continue to collect and build on data obtained from earlier studies and further develop nursing's body of knowledge related to factors which influence the quality of nursing care.In the scenario with Mr. J, there were two prominent Nursing Quality Indicators that stuck out. One was that Mr. J is developing a pressure ulcer and the other was that he was served a pork cutlet for dinner when he had an order to only be served kosher meat.
