Family System TherapyName:Institutional affiliation Family Systems Theory IntroductionFamily therapy is a psychological counseling that enables families to resolve conflict and improve communication. This kind of therapy may be beneficial when the family faces stressful circumstances such as financial hardship, divorce, the death of a family member or in treating mental health concerns that impact the family as a whole (Metcalf, 2011). When a member or members are suffering from mental illnesses such as depression, addictions, chronic illness, and food related disorders, or everyday concerns, like communication problems, interpersonal conflict, or behavioral problems in children and adolescents. The Banyons are in need of family therapy. Mary Banyon’s husband is thinking of bringing her mentally ill mother to live with them in the family house. However, since the issue will affect the entire family, Mary has suggested that they receive counseling first. This paper suggests the Bowen’s family systems theory approach to the Banyons’ problem.
