Genarlow Wilson v. State of GeorgiaThe Wilson v. State is among the most high profile sexual offense cases in the United States of America. Genarlow Wilson was convicted of aggravated child molestation in 2005. At the age of 17, Wilson engaged in oral sex with a teenager of 15 years. Due to the nature of the act, although the minor insisted to have consented, the court did not the court did not put them into consideration as the girl was below the consenting age (Wilson v. State, 2005). The minimum sentence for aggravated child molestation offense was 11 years, which included 10 years without parole. Critics of the sentence have claimed that the sentence was not proportional to the offense. Wilson also considered the sentence to be unfair since the girl was only 2 years younger than him. I feel that the regretful Wilson would have been placed on some form of Community-based corrections instead of incarceration. The halfway house would have been the most appropriate community correction for the offender. Under this program the offender lives in a correctional facility within the community, with a supervisor and a counselor, from where the offender can attend work or school.
