Even though the inmates are in prison already, does not make them less than any other individual. A time where I wasn't effectively communicating with an inmate was when the inmate was upset about an issue that had arised. Instead of listening effectively by using eye contact and nodding at what they were trying to explain, Instead I brushed him off and continued doing my paperwork with no sense of listening to him. I could have made the inmate feel like I cared by nodding when they made certain points, and at least gave the inmate some eye contact to show I was interested in hearing what they had to say. I also realized when I started doing paperwork instead of giving him my undivided attention the inmate felt a sense of disrespect and the situation turned for the worse. I could have shown that I cared what they were saying by standing still giving nothing but my undivided attention to the specific inmate that was talking to me. I feel
