The proposed bill aimed at amending the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to allow for Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) popularly known as food stamps to accommodate purchase of multivitamins-mineral dietary supplements for home consumption(Congress Gov., 2017). The intention was to make multivitamins-mineral supplements available and accessible to all households.Generally, the typical American diet does not feature all essential nutrition recommended by experts such as fruits, whole grains, and vegetables, which provides wide array of vitamins and minerals. Therefore, the bill is highly essential and necessary in promoting health of the Americans. Studies have shown that multivitamins-minerals (MVM) supplements are highly effective in addressing small but critical nutritional gaps that exist in the society. Research has proven that multivitamins-minerals supplements are effective in preventing conditions such as osteoporosis, anemia, and neutral tube defects (Ward, 2014). Some evidence support the possibility of multivitamins-minerals supplements in preventing certain forms of cancer especially in men (Ward, 2014).
