Differentiated instruction is a good example of your ability to adapt teaching and learning to the individual needs and abilities of learners. Both academically gifted and those with disabilities have been well catered for.(Tomlinson, 2004).You have expertly used differentiated instruction to create multiple paths to learning for diverse students(Banks & Banks, 2009).Your instruction is differentiated for learners in the following ways, content is tailored to the needs of individual learners, teaching methods are able to address individual learning abilities suitably and assessments and assignments are based on a learner’s ability and skill levels(Conklin & Frei, 2007).As a teacher, you made good use of universal design method. This methodpays particular attention to learner’s individual circumstances such as physical, hearing and cognitive disabilities. Universal designis similar to differentiated instruction in that the design of instruction is adaptedto learner’s diversity needs in mind. Universal design requires that lessons should be designed to fit learner’s needs from the first instance rather than tailoring ready-made lessons to fit to learner’s exceptional needs.
