Discussion Board 1.1: Theories of family therapyA variety of family theories could be applied to the Banyon’s case. However, the three most important theories are the family system theory, the Cognitive behavioral therapy and the Family Psychoeducation theory. The Bowen family system theory explores the behavior pattern of individuals through their interaction with one another. This theory suggests a group family counseling session (Metcalf, 2011). Cognitive behavioral therapy on the other hand, aims at realigning the pattern of thinking or behavior that is responsible for how people behave. This strategy demands that the therapist takes an active role in realigning the client’s thinking patterns. Finally, the Family Psychoeducation theory (FPE), is an ‘approach for partnering with consumers and families to treat serious mental illnesses” (McFarlane, Dixon & Lucksted, 2003). This strategy could be applicable, but at a later date. However, to resolve the current issue in the family, the system theory is the most applicable theory for the Banyons. References McFarlane, W.
