Week 1: Reading Reponses: Genesis 11:10, 12:10Reply to Lily Fisher,Hi,I find your post quite interesting, especially, your observation that the Bible portrays Israelite’s as being family oriented. I love the structure in your post and your focused argument, however, I would not agree entirely with your perspective that Israelites’ origin is family oriented. I think what the Bible suggests about the origin of Israelite’s origin is that it was founded on closely related people. Such that a person married or started a family with a person they knew very well from the neighborhood to their entire genealogy. Given the lower number of people in the society then, people married from close relations to build a generation. Moving forward, I agree with your view that land meant so much to the Israelites because it was their means-o-an-end. They sourced their food, wealth, and status from land. Whereas, we doubt the actual existence the Israelites, I think that Genesis goes beyond being a folklore told to children by their parents.
