Literature Review: High School Drop-Out Rate in the United StatesName:Institution:High school students make decision to drop out of school for a variety of reasons. In so doing, there are grave consequences even though some students usually have no choice (Allensworth, 2005; Amato & Fowler, 2002). The idea of high school drop-out in the United States has attracted massive debate, usually concerning what can be done to help the situation. Considering competitive nature of life and expectations, dropping out of school hardly helps much in terms of improvement of one’s life (Aud et al., 2011; Beverly, 2008).In a recent report by Solutions for America, individuals without high school diplomas face limited job opportunities and usually have to live with little income. Even though the reasons for dropping out of school are wide-ranging, there are solutions to aid young people and ensure focus in their high school education (Jordan et al., 1996).As a result, this paper explores reasons that inspire students to drop-out with a major focus on four main categories of reasons: student’s background, attitude, and behavior and school performance. Contemporary research has focused on the issue of dropping out from a general viewpoint.
