Enclosed by the massive stone coral rag walls buildings are cool, quite, narrow intimate spaces that some people call street. To us these are intimate spaces. Adorning one coral stonebuilding of a traditional Swahili court yard building, carved and decorated masterfully in rich Swahili tradition is my door. Calling her ‘Lango’ door does not do justice to the effort, skill and emotions of the master door carver who molded her tenderly and lovingly, curving each feature with the care and diligence of a master surgeon. Lango is the name of the elaborate and impressive carved door that leads to my Swahili court yard house. Lango stands grandly guarding the baraza. The baraza can be described as a porch between the transitions from inside to outside it has a low bench attached to the main buildingwhere we sit for sundowner under the cool shade to rest, interact or just enjoy a cool evening.Visual designLango is a Siu door introduced here by early settlers and
