By December 31, the company operated 23,768 outlets globally, in places like Japan, China, Canada, South Korea and the United Kingdom (Simmons, 2005). The core values of the company are: Creating a culture of warmth and belonging, where everyone is welcome, acting with courage, challenging the status quo, being present, connecting with transparency, dignity and respect, delivering our very best in all we do, holding ourselves accountable for results and performance driven, through the lens of humanity. In February 2007, Starbucks realized that its rapid growth was its main problem, as the company deviated from its original core values and started to focus on profits. To reverse the situation, the company made a decision to close down 600 of its outlets to focus on just a few locations, and to abandon most of its products (Simmons, 2005). However, the implementation of the decision would have far reaching effects. This document highlights the impact of the change made by Starbucks Coffee. The Change To improve the efficiency
