The court is a district level federal court with jurisdiction over approximately one half of Pennsylvania. The case started on June 11, 2012, at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.The case was presided over by Senior Judge John Cleland, State Deputy Attorney General, and former homicide prosecutor, Joseph E. McGettigan III led the prosecution team for the commonwealth. The defendant was Gerald Arthur "Jerry" Sandusky born January 26, 1944. The defense team was led by attorney Joseph Amendola.Gerald Sandusky was charged with 52 counts of sexual offences against minors.Sandusky was an assistant football coach for his entire career, mostly at Pennsylvania State University.He founded The Second Mile, a non-profit charity serving Pennsylvania underprivileged and at-risk youth;he maintained an office at Penn State until 2011. It was alleged that Sandusky abused some of the children he coached.
