MitesDr.MouMukhopadhyayZoology (Hons) SEM-5 DSE-2 (Parasitology)Assistant professorSyamsundar college (B.U)Introduction:-Sarcoptes scabieior theitch miteis aparasitic mite(anarthropod) that burrows intoskinand causesscabies. The mite is found in all parts of the world. Humans are not the only mammals that can become infected. Other races of scabies mites may cause infestations in other mammals, such as domestic cats, dogs, pigs, and horses. The mites burrow into the upper layer of the skin but never below the stratum corneum. The burrows appear as tiny raised serpentine lines that are grayish or skin-colored and can be a centimeter or more in length. It should be noted that races of mites found on other animals may cause a self-limited infestation in humans with temporary itching due to dermatitis; however they do not multiply on the human host.Morphology of adult mice:-Adult scabies mites are spherical, eyeless mites with four pairs of legs (two pairs in front and two pairs behind). They are recognizable by their oval, ventrally flattened and dorsally convex tortoise-like bodies and multiple cuticular spines. No demarcation into cephalothorax or abdomen occurs, and the mite's surface has folds covered with short bristles. The front legs end in long, tubular processes known as suckers, and the hind legs end in long bristles.
