Threat actors successfully installed info-stealing malware that allowed them to exploit Pepsi for about 27 days until the breach was contained. Pepsi alerted the authorities and stated that an unknown party accessed there internal IT systems and installed malware that allowed access to names, home and email addresses, IDs and driver’s license numbers. The incident also exposed financial account information, like passwords, pins, access numbers, social security numbers, passport information, and digital signatures.Pepsi Bottling Ventures is the largest privately owned Pepsi-Cola bottler in the United States. It handles 18 facilities in various states and has over 2300 employees. Its data breach announcement surprised many given the company’s reputation in the industry (Gyongyo, 2023).
