In my research I also learned that mental health is not a topic that is talked about in the black community or dealt with by seeing the doctor. It was an eye opening for me as I live in a country life setting and not in a poverty area. I truly had no idea the impacts of poverty living would have on the black community or the black youth mentally. I also found it very interesting how in this community they would only seek out professional help with providers that have been in the same living environment before or could relate to the hardship of being black.BiasBefore I started my research, I was somewhat biased about mental health in the black community and the youth looked like from a medical assistant perspective.
