These guidelines are called presumptive sentencing guidelines and were adopted by the state on May 1st, 1980 (2022 Sentencing Guidelines Grid - minnesota.gov, 2023). Presumptive sentencing is when there are sentence recommendations laid out depending on the individual’s criminal history and current charges. This type of guidelines is laid out in a gride form that specifies what the recommended sentence should be depending on where the person lands on the grid. There is discretion built into the sentencing guidelines that a judge may use with out providing further information.
