Nola Pender developed the Health Promotion Model (HPM), which was after observing that most professionals only intervened when patients developed chronic or acute health problems Pender 2011). According to Pender, the patient's quality of life could be enhanced through disease prevention measures before its occurrence and this promotion of healthy lifestyles could greatly help in saving and reducing health care costs. The model aimed at making nurses understand the major healthy behavior determinants based on behavioral counseling in order to promote healthy lifestyles (Whitlock et al, 2002). The model can greatly help in my nursing practice as it would improve my awareness of the cause and preventive measures for certain diseases. Moreover, from behavioral counseling, I may be able to come up with the best intervention methods that will boost the recovery process, as well as prevent the re-occurrence of such illness.References Pender, N.
