Organizational BehaviorGive an example of a situation that you and someone else experienced together but perceived differently. Which perceptual biases/distortions might explain the difference in perception?Answer: the following situation happened in my office. We are given monthly targets to achieve. We ourselves calculate their daily average so as to keep a tab on the minimum work we do daily. One of my colleagues, in a particular month was achieving her daily average target without a miss. But at the end of the month, she got a bit ill and would suffer headaches daily. This reduced her efficiency and she could not achieve her total monthly target. Since I knew her situation and the fact that she usually works very hard, I could understand her situation. On the other hand, our manager generally perceives all of us to be very lazy and believes that we shirk work. She gave a good scolding to my colleague for not achieving her monthly target. Stereotyping and perceptual set are the perceptual biases affecting her behavior in this case. She stereotypes the employees to be lazy and that they shirk work; that’s why she thought even my colleague did not fulfill her responsibilities.
