Specifically, it builds on the case of Crystal who is a Korean-American female diagnosed with dyslexia. She has difficulties with her family regarding career choice because the parents insist that she must choose a STEM course that they consider marketable. However, Crystal is wary of this because she believes it will be difficult for her to complete a 4-year college course, given that she has dyslexia. Instead, she has sought training in graphic design and is focused on getting the right certification that will earn her employment. Amidst this dilemma, the paper applies the cognitive information processing theory to help the client in furthering her career goals. It is a comprehensive theory which recognizes the fact that career selection involves both affective and cognitive processes.
