There have been multiple advances which have been made in medical technology but they have not made significant discoveries in the realm of red blood cells because they are considered as basic, based on their discoid nature. Erythrocytes are also discoid but they contain a central pallor area which makes them unique compared to the other blood cells (Keohane et al., 2019). In the absence of the right defense which is meant to be provided by erythrocytes, there are serious conditions which may emerge and they include pernicious anemia, iron deficiency anemia, thassamia, and sickle cell anemia.
