I had been hired earlier in the summer, so I had not yet been promoted to a leadership position. However, my ability to help a manager navigate through an accounting error helped me earn a promotion to shift supervisor by the end of the summer. After each cashier shift, employees would take the cashier tray into the counting room, where we would sit with a shift manager and tally the cashier drawer to make sure it matched the receipts. There were two cashiers per shift, so I would often sit with a coworker while each of us counted our drawers. It was a routine process that normally lasted around ten minutes or so. I prided myself on always having an exact match between the drawer and the receipts, as
