We see this many different times throughout the book and it is the reason the war is happening in the book. We see the book through the character, Marji’s eyes, this helps us get a sense of what is going on and the opinions of someone who has to go through this. The author utilizes Feminist criticism when Marji says, “We found ourselves veiled and separated from our friends…Everywhere in the streets there were demonstrations for and against the veil.” (Satrapi, 4-5) These veils were only for women and were separated from the men because they were “superior” to the men. The government uses their religion against them by making them believe that men are better than women and uses the power of being a respected official against the people.
