The goal of this curriculum was to equip students with quality-oriented education. Research shows that the slogan about “quality-oriented education” was emphasized by the then president Hu Jintao ( Tan& Salleh 315). The sentiments of Hu were echoed by former premiers Wen Jiabao, who asserted the need for China to adapt quality oriented education (Tan). Even so, the slogan quality oriented- education lacked any definition on official documents and its definition had to be drawn from its comparison with the traditional education system. In the past, education was based on learning text, taking text, and listening to lectures. Therefore, an improvement in education required China aligning its educational system to the global economy. The new curriculum incorporated pedagogy and assessment in the nation with differences in different municipalities.
