Listenting Skills Paper Managerial Communication

Davenport University Managerial Communications MGMT 535 Abstract Effective communication requires understanding and improving upon all the important components of communication namely speaking, writing, reading and listening. The following paper highlights the importance of listening skills which are not usually considered very important but can really play a role in improving the communication process. The role of developing listening abilities and using them in professional environment is discussed. According to Fuimano (2004), poor communication can damage the organization on a large scale. It can add up to increase low morale, poor productivity and can reduce employee motivation (Fuimano, 2004). Organizations rely excessively on multitasking which reduces the element of listening to others while performing multiple tasks (Fuimano, 2004). The leadership should take the initiative of listening to the opinions of the staff and make this culture throughout the organization as it will increase employee satisfaction through improved communication (Fuimano, 2004). Listening is the most underrated component of overall communication as mostly communication is understood in terms of speaking, reading and writing. I consider myself as a good communicator but the test result show that my listening abilities fall in the average zone. This result is surprising for me as my expectations
