NameProfessorSubjectDateA Reflection on The RamayanaThe Ramayana is an epic poem that features gods, humans, and animal characters engaged in battles over power, duty, greed, and love. King Dasaratha is distraught because he is childless. He sought the counsel of a mentor who claimed that Vishu agreed to be reincarnated as a human to defeat Ravana. Dasaratha calls upon the help of a sage to conduct a sacrifice, leading to the birth of four sons: Rama, Bharatha, Lakshmana, and Sathrugna. Rama, the protagonist of the story, is a reincarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu. Even as a boy, Rama was well-loved by the people around him. He showed exceptional skill and emotional knowledge. Earlier in his life, he was trained by a former king to cast off demons and wield weapons. Rama embodies the qualities of Vishu well and demonstrates to the readers that he is a particular person destined for greatness. As King Dasaratha's chosen successor, Rama must overcome a series of challenges to prove his rightful claim to the throne. Rama would experience his first challenge when Kaikeyi (the favorite wife of King Dasaratha) asked the king to grant the two boons he promised to her.
