Homeless youths are classified based on issues concerning the age of the child, the duration of time living on the street or in arrangements without and the circumstances that led the youth to be on their own without a permanent residence. “Runaway youth" is a category homeless youth who have left their home without the permission of their parents or guardians, while “throwaway” are children who have been asked leave by their parents or caregivers. However, many according to the federal guidelines and many researchers, more emphasis is put on the absence of an adult, rather than where the youths residence.
