The company is among the companies who have declared their commitment to ethical business practices. However, in 2010, infamous Deep Water Horizon accident took place in an offshore oilrig in the Gulf of Mexico, leading to the death of 11 workers, leakage of approximately 4.9 million barrels of oil, and the death of many water animals and plants. Many are questioning whether the company is indeed dedicated to meet its promises. This paper focuses on the strategic implications of how BP managed the Deep Horizon accident. Strategic ImplicationStrategic implications are the outcomes that emerge as the result of lack of understanding and tackling a multidimensional problem. Immediately after the accident, BP tried to shift the blame to its partners, the Switzerland-based Transocean Ltd, through press releases in an effort to clear its name from the accident. This attempt did nothing but delay the process of taking actions to stop the leakage and to save the rig.
