The comparative review will feature how the British welfare system covers poverty and poor members of the society as compared to that of the United States of America and Japan. The coverage of poverty under welfare systems differs from one nation to the other depending on the policies used, the amount of welfare assistance offered as well as the characteristics of people eligible for coverage. It is important to note that despite the differences and similarities in each of the country’s welfare system, the main goal is a focus on elevating the social welfare of the disadvantaged members of the society which is achieved through resources redistribution (Pierson, 2006, p. 12). In addressing poverty many welfare programs recognize the multifaceted nature of poverty and have different indicators such as low income, indebtedness, educational and health inequalities, unemployment, family structure and community breakdown. Each of the three countries’ welfare system with an objective of
