Kolb described experiential learning as a two-level concept: the learning styles and learning cycle. Importantly, the whole model focuses more on an individual’s cognitive abilities or processes. In the publication, Kolb indicated that learning is a process, which involves acquiring concepts through the transformation of experience and applying them in different life situations (McLeod, 2017). The essay will describe Kolb’s learning styles, development stages, and its application in the work environment. Kolb came up with the learning theory in 1974 (McLeod, 2017). The approach demonstrates four distinctive learning styles. In developing the learning style theory, Kolb stated that people have a distinct or different way of learning. Therefore, an individual may naturally prefer one particular learning style to another. The preference is usually influenced by several factors, such as previous educational experiences, individual cognitive ability, and social environment.
