Dear Shelly,Thank you for your observations on team effectiveness in the healthcare environment. I agree that competency, a common purpose, trust and recognition of roles contributes to effective teams. However, I disagree that humor is integral to an effective team especially in a healthcare setting where patient safety is important. Remember that the main goal of an effective team is to ensure safe and high quality healthcare at all times. This can be done by having effective communication and accessible communication channels. Communication is one of the most important characteristics of an effective team because it facilitates the transfer of patient information to relevant healthcare professionals (Babiker et al., 2014). Humor can be a part of communication, only when used during team exercises, meetings or breaks. I also agree with the points you made on workplace conflict. Disagreements between workers, incompatible goals and poor understanding of team roles lead to situations where patient care is compromised. These situations have to be dealt with to promote patient safety and improve the effectiveness of a team. Thank you for your post.ReferencesBabiker, A., Husseini, M.E., Nemri, A.A., Frayh,A.A., Juryyan, N.A., Faki, M.O., Assiri, A., Saadi, M.A., Shaikh, F., & Zamil, F.A. (2014).
